Re-Uniting Ryan Gray

"If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it." -William Arthur Ward

Have you ever heard a story about someone so compelling that you wish you would've had the opportunity to lend a helping hand? Have you ever felt you wanted to do something to help make a difference, then on the other hand thought, "How can one person make a difference?" I'm confident that after being introduced to this family, you will have an overwhelming sense of "I can do this, we can do this!!" - "we" including "you".

The Gray family is a very tight-knit family living right in our community; the type of family you could meet and feel like you've known them forever. One that would always welcome their kids' friends into their home and everyone was welcome at all times. Terry and Rob are always encouraging to everyone, including their three children, giving them a "you can do anything" mindset.

On October 13, 2007, this family's life changed dramatically. This is the day they received the phone call no parent would want to answer: their son, Ryan Gray, had been in a horrific car accident just outside of Kamloops.

People were hoping and praying Ryan would hold on long enough for his family to say good-bye to him. This, however, was not in any of their plans. "Good-bye" is a negative word and this family does not believe in negativity; they did not raise Ryan to think this way either. So, after more than 3 months of Ryan's family living in a hotel close enough to spend their days and most nights in the hospital, Ryan had recovered enough to be transported to Langley Memorial Hospital.

With no room for negativity in the Gray's family life, Ryan is now living in a care home in Langley -- like I said, "Good-bye" was not an option.

This is where "We, (including you)", come into play. Ryan needs to be re-united with his family and we can make it happen. He needs to go home, his family needs Ryan home. Ryan was able to spend this past Christmas at home with his family and friends around him, memories of his childhood hanging on the walls, and the laughter which fills a home and we all share on a daily basis. This is why Ryan's family are desperate to have him home, but there is a problem -- with little to no help coming from anywhere and the medical bills piling up, the costs have added up to more than most of us could imagine. Ryan's recovery has left him in a wheelchair, and is very limited to where he can be in the house. Nothing is wheelchair accessible, making it impossible to re-unite Ryan with his family.

Have you ever watched a Home Makeover television show and been moved to tears? Think about sitting around your house with your family, or barbecuing in the backyard. How much does our family mean to us? How good will you feel being part of this community and helping to give this gift?

Langley Plantar Fasciitis & Reflexology Centre is accepting donations on behalf of Ryan and his family, in the project of bringing Ryan home!

Thank you for all of your help!

There is also a trust account at the Aldergrove branch 276 of TD Canada Trust, number 6275144, for the public to donate cash to Ryan's rehabilitation.

Ryan Gray to benefit from opening

Aldergrove's Ryan Gray, who is recovering from a horrific accident in October, 2007, will be the beneficiary from a grand opening of a new clinic in Walnut Grove on Saturday.

Robin Vorauer and her team of certified reflexologists offer relief to sufferers of Plantar-Fasciitis and provide reflexology treatments.

"It's the first of its kind," says Voraurer. "Half the population suffer from Plantar-Fasciitis but they don't always know what is wrong with their feet or how to relieve the pain."

During her six years of practicing reflexology, she created a technique that has proven very successful in providing relief to many of her clients who suffered from this painful condition.

This treatment led to the expansion of her home-based business. As there was too much business for one person, she joined forces with a team of certified reflexologists to create Langley Plantar Fasciitis and Reflexology Centre Ltd.

She taught her special technique to her co-workers. They are committed and passionate about helping people while using their skills in reflexology.

Vorauer has been helping Gray with his rehabilitation, and felt that there was no better recipient of donations during the grand opening on Saturday.

"I am thrilled to have been invited recently to contribute in the rehabilitation of Ryan Gray and joining the community of Aldergrove and Langley in helping in every way I can to help him recover.

"Ryan was in a terrible accident a year and a half ago, and the community of Aldergrove and Langley is working on raising funds to make Ryan's home wheelchair accessible so that he can go home," she said.

Anyone interested in making a donation towards this project can do so at the clinic's grand opening on Saturday.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new business, at #4 - 8880 202 St., takes place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday (June 20, 2009).
